In September, 2007 the City of DeFuniak Springs adopted a resolution to participate in the Communities for a Lifetime program of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. This was followed in November 2007 by the Board of County Commissioner, Walton County. A little later the City of Freeport and Town of Paxton came onboard to form a county-wide alliance.

Volunteer citizens, agencies, and government officials formed an ad-hoc committee to move the CFAL forward. The Board of County Commissioner then officially recognized the committee to be advisory in nature.

The CFAL Committee of Walton County meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Chautauqua Center of Northwest Florida State College, 908 Hwy 90 West., DeFuniak Springs, FL. All meetings are open to the public.
